Our Concerns

In the post 2006 People’s Movement-II, the broader public discourse has been dominated by greater issues of politics, which overshadowed the immediate and everyday concerns of the larger public. The assumption that once the national political issues were unraveled, it would automatically address the everyday interests of the larger public was untrue. We acknowledge that the issues of public concerns need continuous and regular engagement, which led us to prioritize the everyday issues of larger public as one of our key area of work.

Numerous political events in the history of Nepali politics has raised the expectations and hopes of the people, in particular the youth. Failure to meet these expectations has left the youth with frustrations leading to either migration or this active population being dissatisfied. In order to avoid these frustrations being turned into apathy, our network engages with the youth and encourages them to actively be involved in demanding accountability of the authorities by questioning in everyday public concerns.

Large number of youths are going abroad in search of better opportunities each day. Although government has not been got tired by saying that youths are the backbone of the nation. Many policies are drafted, many programs are prioritized for youth in fiscal year budget and government plans and programs. This year also it has been prioritized. But the policies are not implementing the way it has to and youths have so much limited access in them. So, youths are not getting opportunities. It is said that large number of population are youths and they are considered as active population but youths concerns and interests are never got prioritized by the nation. Neither Youth Council try to know what the youths want nor youths try to find the opportunities. In the past years, government used to blame the long political transitions and vacant local bodies for creating youth opportunities and balanced programs prioritizing the youth. But now the transitions have been ended, provincial and local level representatives have got their positions. Recently, the fiscal budget and plans and programs of the country has released and all the provinces has also released their budget and plans and programs but there are no any drastic changes regarding youth. The major cause of the problem is youth's opportunities are not prioritized according to youth's interest. Here we, will see how the local bodies and provinces are prioritizing the youth opportunities in their budgets, plans and programs. And we believe that when the almost half of the active population is youth then their concerns should be prioritized and heard.

Concludingly, politics has to encourage its people, especially youth but Nepalese politics is discouraging. The local and provincial governments, parliamentarians, related ministries, authority holders are not becoming responsible as the way people expect. It is the biggest problem which is creating gap between people and government and these are the hurdles for the speedy development and economic prosperity as well.

In thRebuilding is a live issue for two years more as the deadline is of five years and being the citizen of the country like Nepal which is always in risk zone of disaster, the issue of disaster relief/response is always discussable. Not only this, now with the election of local levels, all the reasons for blames have been ended. There were high expectations on local bodies. They were supposed to speed up the rebuilding process and they are also provided with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management responsibilities. So, it's a great opportunity for us to work on Disaster Relief/Response.

Public policy is best described as the broad area of government laws, regulations, court decisions, and local ordinances. Public policy deals systematically with public problems we face every day mostly by government and with cooperation from different actors from different disciplines. Government affects all aspects of our lives.
Everyone has a stake in the public policies enacted by federal, state, and local governments. Many citizens and groups try to influence public policy. So, we will be reviewing the policy which effect larger mass.
