Tanneri Chaso successfully completed the Youth Orientation Workshop: Building Democratic Engagement through Legislative Literacy under the “Mero Bidhayak, Mero Chaso” – Lumbini Province Series on 5–6 December 2025 at Butwal in collaboration with Purak Asia.
The workshop brought together an enthusiastic group of 30 young participants from across Lumbini Province to understand the Power of Parliament, the role and responsibilities of Provincial Assembly Members, and the importance of informed civic engagement.
Bridging Youth and Lawmakers: A major highlight of the series was the meaningful participation of Lumbini Provincial Assembly representatives. We express our sincere gratitude to:
- Hon. Tularam Gharti Magar, Speaker, Lumbini Provincial Assembly
- Hon. Bhagwati Adhikari, Provincial Assembly Member
- Hon. Chandra Kesh Gupta, Provincial Assembly Member
- Hon. Tulsi Prasad Chaudhary, Provincial Assembly Member
- Hon. Baijnath Kalwar, Provincial Assembly Member
Their willingness to hold open, humble, and insightful conversations with the youth created a strong foundation for trust and democratic learning. Their presence encouraged young participants to ask questions, understand legislative processes, and reflect on the role of elected representatives in a federal democratic system.
Why “Mero Bidhayak, Mero Chaso”?
Nepali voters do not directly elect a government—they elect embers of Parliament and Provincial Assembly Members. Yet, there is a significant gap in public understanding of:
- what these representatives can do,
- how parliamentary power operates, and
- how citizens can hold their representatives accountable.
Through this initiative, Tanneri Chaso aims to deepen legislative literacy, empower youth to ask informed questions, and promote evidence-based civic engagement. When young citizens understand the Power of Parliament, they become not just voters—but active, critical, and responsible participants in democracy.
A Space for Youth to Learn, Question, and Lead
The two-day workshop included:
- interactive sessions on federalism and provincial governance
- discussions on parliamentary powers and limitations
- conversations with elected representatives
- practical activities on questioning, accountability, and civic responsibility
Participants shared how this experience helped shift their understanding of democracy from abstract ideas to everyday responsibilities.
Their energy, curiosity, and thoughtful reflections reaffirmed our belief that democracy grows stronger when young people are informed, engaged, and confident to question power.
Looking Ahead
Tanneri Chaso is committed to expanding this initiative to other provinces, ensuring that young people across Nepal gain access to legislative literacy and platforms for meaningful civic participation.
Parliament is not just about politics it is about PEOPLE.
